Happy Thursday! 2021 is around the corner, and now is the perfect time to start thinking of where to bring your students next.

At EWT, we know how planning a tour from start to finish can be taxing. As a teacher, juggling between educating and travel planning can easily distract you and burn you out, eventually causing your tour to be full of stress. It shouldn't be that way.

As such, we thought that providing you with a travel planning timeline and checklist may bring you a sense of relief. While we'll always accompany you closely throughout the whole process – from requesting a proposal to booking your next trip, letting us arrange it all for you and getting ready to travel –, there are a few things that you can do at your end to foster safety.

Travel Planning Checklist

DESTINATION(S) RESEARCH FRAME:

At time of booking (recommended):

  • Have you booked travel insurance?
  • Is a visa required?
  • Are any vaccinations required? Use local websites and, in case of any doubts, always check with a doctor.
Before traveling (especially abroad), you may want to research about:
  • Local language, time and currency.
  • Electricity, weights and measures.
  • Weather and climate.
  • Traditional food – we recommend listing any dietary restrictions in your group.
  • Is water potable? When not, don’t drink still water from unknown source or eat raw fruit/vegetables. Prefer mineral, bottled water and thoroughly cooked and/or peeled fruits and vegetables. Avoid ice cubes.
  • Customary tips and gratuities.
  • Cellphone reception and packages.
  • Cultural aspects that are worth knowing to travel hassle-free while making sure to be respectful to the local community.
  • Travel advisories for the country(ies) you will be visiting at https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories.
  • We will provide you with local emergency numbers prior to your departure.
EXTRA TIPS:
  • Check https://travel.gc.ca/travelling prior to your departure for information on local advisories, health precautions, and required travel documents.
  • Notify your embassy about your trip online to allow for an immediate response in case of a local emergency.
  • Notify your bank about your trip and give the same advice to your students’ parents. Also check exchange rates and local information about cash/ATMs/traveling cheques.
  • For students with severe conditions, we recommend having a letter with the medical condition described translated into the local language.
TO BE PACKED:
  • A list of students with allergies, dietary restrictions, etc.
  • Your final documents pouch provided by EWT including a detailed itinerary, destination information, tips and local contact information.
  • Your insurance contract, where you will find all the relevant information in case of emergencies.
  • Some extra water and snacks for the traveling days.
  • Prescriptions for students with allergies.
  • Disinfecting wipes and alcohol – sanitary conditions are not always comparable to North American standards!
  • A travel health kit.
  • Cellphones chargers.
  • Travel alarm device.
  • Extra plugs and adaptors.
  • Mini sewing kit.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Spare prescriptions glasses or contacts.
  • A couple of medium-sized plastic bags, which are useful for, soiled laundry or dirty shoes.
  • Appropriate clothing and accessories to your destination – not to worry, we will help you with that!
